Larry's Home: About Larry Selman

Larry Selman has spent much of his life raising money for charity. He does not feel attached to a particular charity. He raises the money because he enjoys being part of something making a difference. In addition to the fundraising Larry has been active in every community he has lived.

In the 1950s and 1960s Larry was an Air Raid Warden with his father. During their service in 1960 the two were called to control crowds mobbing the scene when a TWA flight from Ohio collided in midair with a United Airlines jet, which fell into the Park Slope neighborhood in Brooklyn.

Larry served as an Auxiliary Fireman while he lived in Coney Island. He would assist the firemen with their hoses and equipment, and cleared the fire hydrants of snow and other obstructions.

Larry has been in active in the Bedford-Barrow-Commerce (BBC) Block Association for over thirty years. Aside from fundraising, Larry helps with neighborhood beautification and neighborhood watches. To learn more about the BBC Block Association please visit Larry’s Neighbors.
